Everyone has heard of Botox®. It is the world’s most popular cosmetic treatment, after all. Because of its popularity, there are also a lot of misconceptions out there about exactly what Botox is and what it does.

Botox is a highly purified toxin that, when injected into facial muscles, relaxes them and prevents the wrinkles that appear on the face from years of laughing, squinting, and making other facial expressions. Botox works beneath the skin’s surface to temporarily relax the muscles that cause facial lines & help your face look visibly refreshed & smoother.

At Medical Aesthetics & Laser in The Woodlands, TX, we have the top Botox injectors in the region on-site. Using advanced techniques and years of experience, our clients love looking like a more youthful, fresher version of themselves.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE SEEKING BOTOX

Am I a good candidate for Botox?

Healthy adult men and women between the ages of 30 to 50 who are seeking a temporary solution to wrinkles, with no downtime, are fantastic candidates for Botox injections.

Botox is an amazing way to temporarily reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, marionette lines, laugh lines, frown lines, and more. Plus, if you are not happy with the results, the effects will wear off after a few months and your appearance will go back to the way it was prior to injection.

If you’re scared of needles, allergic to Botox or the metal in the needles, or pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant soon, seek other treatments, or at least consider waiting to have Botox injections.

What do I hope to get out of Botox injections?

Setting realistic expectations will help you get the most out of your Botox injections. Get in front of the mirror, make some expressions, and note what lines and wrinkles bother you the most. Then express this to our physician injector to ensure your priorities are ours.

Botox is most commonly injected into the forehead, between the eyebrows, in the corners of the eyes, around the nose, and in the sides of the chin to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles formed by your everyday facial expressions.

Botox is not designed to make you look physically different, nor will it enhance your features as fillers can, but it provides a fresher, smoother, and more youthful version of you.

If you are over the age of 50 or after a longer term solution to wrinkles and lines, we may recommend other aesthetic treatments like HALO® laserPhotofacials, or microneedling along with your Botox injections to achieve your desired results.

Do I fully understand the difference between Botox and fillers?

Botox is a neurotoxin injection, designed to temporarily relax muscles that cause expression lines and wrinkles. Check back to your priority list. Are the lines and wrinkles you want to treat caused by facial expressions like smiling, frowning, or squinting? If so, Botox may be an excellent option!

Like we mentioned earlier, fillers are most appropriate for enhancing features like lips and providing volume to cheeks. If you have bothersome lines or wrinkles that are deeper set, and not caused by expressions, you may ask about adding dermal fillers to your appointment for Botox at our office in The Woodlands.

Am I too young for Botox?

This is an extremely popular question. Since everyone’s skin is unique and ages differently, there is no set age that you should begin Botox injections.

We typically find, however, that Botox is most effective (& our clients are happiest) in the long-term when we can relax muscles before the expression lines can even form or right when they begin to appear. These expression wrinkles, lines, and folds can be most effectively prevented with “Baby Botox” injections between ages 25 and 30.

Am I committed to getting regular Botox injections?

Botox is a temporary treatment for expression lines and wrinkles. This means that after the effects of the neurotoxin wear off, the muscles will be free to contract again and can continue to create wrinkles and folds in the skin.

Since you could not form any new wrinkles for a few months, you will still look great for several months after the effects of your Botox injections completely wear off. However, if you want to maintain your smooth complexion over a long period, you must consider more injections.

Most clients are happy with the results of their Botox for 3 to 6 months before returning to our office for another round of injections to maintain their smooth, wrinkle-free complexion.

Is now the right time to get Botox?

Many get Botox so they can look great for a big event, like their wedding day. However, to achieve the look you want when you want it, it is important to time the injections precisely.

Unlike fillers, the effects of Botox are not immediate. Clients typically see results 2 to 3 days after and last for 4 months, on average. Some clients experience light bruising and swelling after their injections. Make sure you tell your physician injector your timeline and motivations for having the treatment. This way, we can guide you on exactly when you should schedule your appointment for Botox injections.

One last thing: Botox is ineffective at treating the wrinkles and lines caused by photoaging, or exposure to UV radiation from the sun. The injected product also diminishes quicker when exposed to direct sunlight. So do not abandon your daily SPF 30+ routine before, during, or after your Botox treatments! This may be a consideration when deciding the best time of year to have Botox.

QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL PROVIDERS OF BOTOX NEAR YOU

Botox Near You

What are your qualifications?

This should be the first question you ask at any Botox consultation. If a provider cannot readily supply their licensing information, tell you about their ongoing education protocols, and show before/after photos, run far away and contact the Medical Aesthetics & Laser team!

Medical Aesthetics & Laser is overseen by Dr. R. David Reeves M.D., FACOG, a Board-Certified OB-GYN. Through continuing medical education, Dr. Reeves has been certified by Laserscope to use aesthetic lasers and intense pulsed light. He is a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and has also completed the Aesthetic Enhancement Institute course for Botox® and dermal fillers.

Our Botox injectors’ technique varies from the standard “cookbook” patterns taught at basic injectables courses. By observing each person’s facial animation, we can place Botox to improve aesthetic facial proportions, soften lines, and give a natural, undetectable result.

When you turn to Medical Aesthetics & Laser for your Botox injections, you can rest assured knowing you are in extremely practiced hands.

Are there any Botox side effects I should be concerned about? Does Botox hurt?

Everyone reacts differently to facial injections like Botox, but it is important to know that there are no significant risks or pain associated with Botox. Negative side effects are very rare and usually occur at the hands of underqualified or inexperienced providers.

Though you can go back to your normal routine right after your Botox injections, and clients report minimal discomfort during the injections, we recommend planning your appointment at a time that you can go home and rest for a few hours afterwards in case you experience redness or swelling.

What results from Botox? How long do Botox results last?

If you still are not quite sure what to expect, don’t forget to ask your Medical Aesthetics & Laser injection specialist to share their expert knowledge and opinions! We perform hundreds of Botox injections each month for men and women of all ages and skin types, and we can help set realistic expectations.

On average, your Botox injections will last 3 to 6 months. Everyone’s body will metabolize the injections at a different rate. However, many clients find that after about 12 weeks, they notice about 50% of normal movement return to the treated area(s) and by 16 weeks, 80% of normal movement is back. When this happens, consider scheduling your next Botox appointment.

Depending on which area(s) you’d like to treat (brows, forehead, nose, or mouth), we will help you understand the expected results based on your current wrinkles, age, lifestyle, and skin type.

Will my Botox look natural?

Pay attention to your provider’s before and after photos. Do the results he or she creates look too subtle, too obvious, or just right? Do their clients achieve results you’d like to emulate? If your philosophy and goals don’t match at the outset, it’s likely you will not be satisfied with your Botox results.

The key to natural-looking Botox is taking a conservative treatment approach. You want to relax your facial muscles, not reduce their ability to contract altogether. Overuse of Botox can make you appear frozen or expressionless.

Lucky for you, the Medical Aesthetics & Laser injectors have plenty of experience helping our clients achieve their best look, while still appearing just like themselves and with no one guessing that they’ve “had work done.”

How much does Botox cost?

Make sure you are aware of exactly what you will spend by the end of your Botox consultation.

The cost of Botox at Medical Aesthetics & Laser largely depends on how much product we inject and where it’s injected, along with how deep your wrinkles and facial folds are.

Botox is administered by the “unit” and sold in syringes of 100 units. At your initial (free) consultation with us, we will provide you with an exact number of syringes you should purchase to achieve the final look you are after.
