Spring is in the air (almost), and soon, it’ll be warm enough to pull out your favorite pair of shorts. But if thin, hair-like veins stop you from showing off your legs, there’s a treatment for leg veins in the Woodlands you’ll definitely want to try.

Can you guess what it is?

Don’t worry, we’ll tell you—it’s laser vein removal.

If you are new to the medspa world, you may not have heard about the wonders of laser therapy. Lasers can precisely blast away a variety of skin perfections, including scars, discoloration, and the ever-so-discouraging leg veins.

At Medical Aesthetics & Laser we’ve successfully used the power of lasers to reduce the appearance of spider veins and the side effects that come with them

WHAT ARE SPIDER VEINS?

Spider veins are tiny, web-like veins that twist just beneath the surface. They are usually red, blue, or purple in color and can be concentrated in one area or spread throughout the entire leg (you can also have them on your face too).

One thing to keep in mind is that spider veins are not usually a medical concern; they’re moreso physically unappealing to those who have them. But in some cases, they can cause other symptoms such as swelling, itching, and burning, which can make having leg veins even worse. (Talk about adding injury to insult!)

THE CULPRITS BEHIND SPIDER VEINS

If you want to point fingers at something, you can blame weak and damaged valves for the appearance of spider veins. Go ahead, we’ll wait.

Veins are in charge of carrying blood back up to your heart (not to be confused with arteries that transport blood from your heart to your body). You know the law of gravity? Well, it’s true that what goes up, must come down—but you don’t want blood without oxygen going back down. That’s where valves come in.

In your legs, muscle contractions act as pumps to push blood to your heart. As blood in your veins fights against gravity, valves open to let it in, then close to stop it from coming back down.

Here’s the catch: if you have weak or damaged valves, blood can flow backward and pool inside the vein—the added pressure of which causes the vein to twist and stretch. And do you know what that leads to? You guessed it—spider veins.

So where do weak or damaged valves come from?

That question is a little hard to answer. There’s no one true answer for where weak and damaged valves come from, because it depends on a variety of factors, such as:

Genetics: We hate to say it, but if you have close family members with spider veins, you’re more likely to get them too.

Age: There’s a reason why you rarely see younger people with leg veins, and that’s because they tend to emerge as you age.

Gender: Due to various hormonal changes such as pregnancy, menopause, and oral contraceptives, women are more likely to have visible leg veins than men.

Obesity: People who are obese puts more pressure on their veins, making them more susceptible to spider veins.

Fortunately, a laser treatment for leg veins in The Woodlands zaps away spider veins, giving you clearer and more even-toned skin.

MOVE ASIDE, THERE’S A NEW TREATMENT FOR LEG VEINS IN TOWN

Leg Veins

If your parents or even grandparents suffered from spider veins, they might’ve gotten a vein stripping procedure. Starting at the groin, doctors would insert metal rods through the vein then screw on a cap at the end. Afterwards, doctors would pull the rod back out, therefore “stripping the vein.”

Thank goodness there is another (newer, safer, and better) treatment for leg veins.

A laser treatment called ClearV safely breaks apart spider veins, visible blood vessels, and small capillaries. By targeting and heating the vein only, laser therapy eliminates veins without harming the surrounding tissue. Plus, it’s a great option for those who don’t have the time to deal with surgery or aren’t huge fans of needles

The innovative ClearV technology uses Subsurface Vein Illumination (SVI™), which is basically a long way of saying that your provider can get a closeup view of your veins to target veins you couldn’t even see yourself!

Here’s how ClearV works…

Light from the laser energy penetrates the tissue and targets spider veins. In turn, the energy heats the veins, leading to damage and scar tissue. Scar tissue blocks off the vein, and the vein loses its blood source.

So without blood, there’s no oxygen, and without oxygen, the vein dies. And when those spider veins die, you’ll enjoy clear smooth legs that are ready for summer (so go ahead and purchase those cute shorts you’ve had your eyes on).

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A CLEARV TREATMENT

ClearV is a treatment for leg veins in The Woodlands that gives great results without downtime. For you workaholics out there (or if you simply can’t take off work), ClearV may be the perfect solution for you.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE YOUR LASER LEG VEIN TREATMENT

If you want to make the most out of your ClearV treatment, you’ll have to do your part. Before your laser leg vein treatment in The Woodlands, you’ll want to: :

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning, and self-tanning for at least one week.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil supplements, Vitamin E, and other blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least one week.
  • Arrive with a bare treatment area, free of any creams, lotions, or moisturizers

Pretty easy, right? Just these few easy steps will ensure that your treatment goes smoothly and you get the best results possible.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LASER LEG VEIN TREATMENT

Once your treatment begins, your provider will apply a local anesthetic to the area. After the anesthetic has settled, we use a precise handpiece to selectively treat each vein. You may notice a small snapping sensation or the feeling of your skin heating up, but other than that, the process is virtually painless.

How long the process takes depends on each individual. So make sure you’re taking into account the size of your treatment area, number of veins, and your skin tone.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER A LASER LEG VEIN TREATMENT

After your treatment for leg veins is complete, you’re good to go about the rest of your day. You won’t have to worry about staying home or recovery time. You will, however, need to wear compression hose to promote healing and stay away from direct sunlight for the following four weeks. Compression technology will help you maximize your results and have the area healed sooner and better. We will give you additional specific post-treatment instructions that you should 100% follow throughout the healing process.

CLEARV FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Leg Veins

At Medical Aesthetics & Laser, we never want our clients to feel like they’re in the dark. That’s why if you get a treatment for leg veins at our office in The Woodlands, we’ll answer all of your questions before the process starts. If you’re not sure what to ask, here are some of our frequently asked questions about our ClearV treatment.

HOW DO I KNOW IF CLEARV IS RIGHT FOR ME?

You’ll never know if ClearV is right for you unless you schedule a free consultation. That’s because our specialists will want to examine your legs to determine if you’re a good candidate or if there is another ideal solution to help you treat your leg veins.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

We wish we could tell you here and now how many treatments you’ll need, but the number of treatments widely varies from person to person. If we simply said, “you will need X amount of treatments,” you wouldn’t be getting a customized plan.

We can say that most patients achieve optimal results after just 2 to 6 treatments. During your consultation, your laser technician will map out a plan for you and give you an exact recommendation.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS OF LASER LEG VEIN TREATMENT?

You won’t notice the results of your treatment for leg veins right away. The majority of spider veins will disappear after 2 to 4 weeks, but in some cases, it may take longer to see the best results. Keep in mind that after the laser treatment, the vessels underneath your skin will gradually change from a dark blue color to a light red. Eventually, they’ll disappear within 2 to 6 weeks.

WILL MY SPIDER VEINS EVER COME BACK?

A laser treatment for leg veins doesn’t stop new veins from showing up; it can only remove existing ones. Ways that you can prevent leg veins include:

  • Exercising regularly
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Wearing compression hose
  • Eating a high-fiber low-sodium diet
  • Changing your sitting/standing position regularly (Ever heard the rule to never cross your legs on a plane? This is why.

If more spider veins appear, you can always get more ClearV treatments to maintain your results.

DOES CLEARV ALSO TREAT VARICOSE VEINS?

In short, no. Spider veins are a cosmetic concern only and are much smaller and shallower than varicose veins.
